A Day in the Lifesta – Get to Know Lifester Eran Davidov

Name: Eran Davidov

Position:  CTO and GiR (Geek In Residence)

Special or hidden talents?:  I used to be able to whistle with my tongue. I think I’ve lost that ability.

What’s your favorite daily deal that you have purchased?:  A deal for Circue De Soleil’s Wintuk show

What have you learned since working at Lifesta?: 1) There are daily deal sites for anything from cats to people who like the color red. 2) The urban dictionary has a definition for “Groupon Anxiety” and 3) “Enough Traction” is a magic number that changes depending on the weather and what was for lunch!

What should people know about Lifesta?: We put a lot of effort into making it easy to find any deal you want. If you have suggestions – please tell us. We love feedback!

How many traffic lights are here in San Francisco, the home of Lifesta

HQ?: My guess would be 150, but common sense dictates 42. Probably somewhere in between.

If you had to pick one fictional character that best fits your
personality, who would it be and why? Pinky from Pinky and the Brain. He probably had the most fun.

Deal or no Deal – Photoshop Fiasco

Our very own Eran came across this deal the other day and I wish you were here to see his reaction. We don’t come across deals very often that has had such an effect on him like this one does. Check it out below!

Let’s Evaluate: Who photoshopped this photo for the deal? Our photoshop artist can mess up photos for up to 50%off!

It’s a shame that as a result of this photoshop fiasco, this has been stamped a deal fail for misrepresenting the deal! Not to mention that this is promoting a hair salon, but the deal is for getting a manicure or pedicure!

And it also gets the ‘LifestaLarryLook ‘

Happy Friday everyone, and have a safe holiday weekend.

Deal or no Deal – Men’s Brazilian Wax?!

The title of this post says it all. Let’s get straight to today’s deal:

Let’s Evaluate:

The first thing that runs through my mind is YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME!

LifestaLarry's reaction to the deal

I did not even know this existed. It sounds so painful and I don’t want to Google what exactly is entailed in a ‘Men’s Full Brazilian Wax.” I’m scared to see the results. Is this a new craze? If I did this, is the price of the anethesia included?! If so, they at least could have been creative with the name and called it a ‘Bro-zilian Wax!’

This is a DEAL FAIL for all the reasons you can think of!

Lifesta with Larry – Daily Deal Industry Rundown

WOW! There’s been a lot going on the past few weeks within the world of daily deals. The industry seems to be growing like crazy, and its not just lots of newcomers that are making a splash. We always want to keep you informed about all things daily deals, so check out this rundown:

  • Groupon filed for their IPO, and as response to critic negativity, they released a statement with their ever-so-loveable Spokescat. The response goes to show their playful and goofy culture, but makes it very apparent that they won’t stay mum when there’s criticism.
  • Other services like Loopt are jumping on the daily deal bandwagon and have come up with a creative approach to the market with their new mobile application U-Deal. The idea is to let people using the application request the deal they want. Then, they recruit their friends through Facebook to commit to purchase if the deal get the green light.
  • We posted a few blogs ago about daily deal niche sites, but EVEN MORE have popped up since then! Some interesting new ones are: ExoticDeals for adults, the DailyHookup for gay men, and FurryBoo for your favorite pet! What on earth will they think of next?!

This whole world of daily deals sure is exciting, and I love being part of it through Lifesta! There are many different facets to the industry and I am excited to see what happens next. What are your thoughts? What has caught your attention with all of this news? Sound off in our comments section!

Deal or no Deal – Father’s Day Fail #2

It’s not very often we come across deals that scream FAIL when you read the headline! Check out today’s deal for Men’s Life-Coaching below:

Let’s Evaluate:  First off, let’s take a look at this statement from the deal; “for far too long men have been pummeled with messages bent on confusing them about their roles… this assault upon men has worked exceptionally well.” Ok, who pummeled and assaulted them? Since women are normally not prone to assault and pummeling, was it androgynous human beings? UFOs? Zombies? What psychologist has validated this statement?

We are rolling here at the Lifesta headquarters and need a little life coaching after reading this deal. We instantly stamp this one a deal FAIL!

Happy Father’s Day to all the dad’s out there! It’s never too late to get them something they’ll love on Lifesta!

Deal or no Deal – Father’s Day Fail

Yesterday we posted a guide to getting your dad the best deals for Father’s Day from Lifesta. Check out today’s “Deal or no Deal”, and find out why it SHOULDN’T be on your gift list:

Let’s Evaluate: This is Groupon’s version of a Father’s Day gift. It’s not valid on Father’s Day, can’t be used by fathers, and many other restrictions apply. We can’t decide if the underage model is included, or if it’s just an incestuous photo. This has been stamped a Father’s Day deal FAIL!

A Lifesta Day – The Lifesta Way

You know the American wedding saying “Something Old, Something New, Something Borrowed, Something Blue”, right?

For my San Francisco Lifesta day, I searched for something bold, something spoiling, something cold, something surprising.

I wanted a fun day with minimal pay.  Lifesta seems to offer the best way of doing it.  I am NOT about planning weeks ahead, not about going out of my way unless it’s well worth it, and like all of us, I love a good deal.

So here’s my Lifesta day:

Have the day’s first latte @ home, head to the city.

Start the day with some serious spoiling.  I mean getting pampered and spoiled, head to toes.  How can I resist $95 for $210 Worth of Spa Services at I-Spa at the InterContinental?  [details at bottom]

Off the SPA menu, I picked 3 treatments, spoiling hands, feet and face. Essential Manicure,Essential Pedicure and the Age Defying Facial with Antioxidants.

One gets all soft and spoiled reading the description of the mani-pedi, “Essential oil extracts indulge your skin and soothe your senses. A warm soak is followed by a luxurious exfoliating scrub and massage. Warm paraffin, polish and complete nail grooming included.

three hours of me, me, me.

Total: $240.  I have to add $30 [+tip] and it’s still a great bargain.

Spoiling?  oh yes.  There’s a silly smile on my face.  Am so ready for something bold.

I’m heading to the Ottimista Enoteca-Cafe.  With the Lifesta coupon for $15, I get $40 to spend here.  By now it’s after 2 PM, they are open and I can really enjoy myself.  I’m gonna sit and relax for a while.  I start with the roasted almonds [$4] and a quartino of the Inzolia, Cantina Barbera, 2009, Sicilia [$14].  People watching and a book complete my relaxation.  The Art of Choosing is a perfect read when I choose to enjoy a mid-week spoiling day.  Who knows, maybe a guy in the next table will strike a conversation? Is this too bold? Meanwhile, almonds are gone, there’s wine left in my quartino and I’m hungry.  I order the orecchiette / rapini / garlic / ricotta salata [$15].  Espresso and a doughnut [$2.5+6] are the sweet ending.  Some small talk, a couple of pages progress in my book.  [details at bottom]

Bold?  definitely.

I’m almost ready to head home.  From Ottimista Enoteca-Cafe, I take a walk.  Between I-SPA and Ottimista, I’m happy head to toes.  It’s time for something cold.

Lifesta offers a Bombay Ice-Cream $10 goodness for $5 coupon, and I’m ready for the cold goodness. Coupon is a bit vague; nothing that a quick phone call didn’t fix.

Of the menu, I pick the chicku and fog ice-cream. After tasting fresh chicku in India, there’s no way I’m passing on chicku ice-cream.  It’s the only form of chicku available outside India. [details at bottom]

Cold – done.

I know you are about to ask me about the “surprising” part of the day.  But hey, if I tell you now, how would it be a surprise.  You’ll get yours, I’m sure.
